GRECIA ALBÁN's new single, “UKU ÑAN,” is out now. It speaks of discovering an inner path and finding an ocean inside the body. “This song abandons the path to the outside world and in an intention of internal dialogue, it finds nature, immensity and generosity,” says Albán. “It fuses different Andean and Amazonian rhythms — such as san juan and yumbo — combined with pentatonic melodies and synthesized sounds.” The song was written in Spanish and later adapted to kichwa, a pre-Hispanic indigenous language spoken in Ecuadorian territory. For Albán, it is an honor to be able to incorporate fragments in kichwa in her music, since in addition to providing rich sonorities due to its phonetic nature, it expresses the need to connect and embrace with her ancestral memory.
